QoS Routing for IP-based Virtual Private Network Services

چکیده
IP-based VPN technology is considered an attractive cost-effective private network service for both customers and service providers. We focus our research on the design of a minimal cost routing policy to be used by network-based IP VPN. The interest in such solutions is generated by both customers seeking to reduce support costs and by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) seeking new revenue sources. Reducing the cost of operation would allow ISPs to define and deploy new VPN services. In particular, a Multi-commodity Min-Cost Flows (MMCF) formulation is applied to the resource allocation in network-based IP VPN in order to develop a cost-effective routing proposal. We compare our proposal with the IETF RFC 2676 enhancement : a QoS enhancement to the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) algorithm. Our results show the benefits of our proposal by considering two different scenarios.

Internet Traffic has grown exponentially over last few years due to provision of multiple class services through Internet backbone. With the explosive use of Internet, contemporary Internet routers are susceptible to overloads and their services deteriorate drastically and often cause denial of services. In this paper, an analysis is made how forecasting technique, routing algorithm and Genetic...

OVPN (Optical Virtual Private Network) over IP (Internet Protocol)/GMPLS (Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching) over DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology with QoS assurances is considered as a promising approach for the next generation OVPN. In this paper, we suggest a multicast OLSP (Optical Label Switched Path) establishment mechanism for supporting high bandwidth mu...

The traditional approaches to optimal design and planning of packet networks focus on the networklayer infrastructure, thus neglecting end-to-end Quality of Service (e2e QoS) issues, and Service Level Agreement (SLA) guarantees. This is quite inappropriate since the Internet today carries a wide range of critical telecommunication services. The challenge in the area is how to devise reasonable ...

This article reviews the key differences between traditional IP routing and the emerging MPLS approach, and identifies where MPLS adds value to IP networking. In various corners of the industry MPLS has been held up as the solution to IP QoS, gigabit forwarding, network scaling, and traffic engineering. Each of these expectations is critically considered in the light of developments in conventi...
